The distance from the car gate and the hoistway door cannot be over 5” per the A17.1 1955 edition as referenced by the Missouri Minimum Code for Existing Elevators (currently it is 6 1/4”). The distance from the hoistway door and the edge of the inner sill ledge cannot be over 3” per the A17.1 1955 edition as referenced by the Missouri Minimum Code for Existing Elevators (currently it is 3 1/2”). A guard shall be installed on each hoistway door to minimize these gaps that is at least a minimum of 30 inches high and be beveled back to the door at a minimum of a 45 degree angle. This item shall be corrected and reinspected within 10 days or the elevator will be locked out of service.
