The rope gripping device that is installed on this unit to conform for unintentional movement of the elevator car is activating whenever the hoistway door is accessed. Per A17.1 20004a 2.19.2.2, to which this elevator is installed to, opening of the hoistway door is not one of the devices to which the rope gripper shall activate. The device shall be repaired and a reinspection is required.
