ASME A17.1 2004 with 2005 Addendum and 2005 : Elevators 1.5 - Car lighting and receptacles 8.6.4.15 Emergency Lighting x 2.14.7.2.2 - Automatic operation of the car lights shall be arranged to turn off the lights only when the following conditions exist for not less than 5 minutes: (a) the car is at a floor (b) the doors are closed (c) there is no demand for service (d) the car is on automatic operation. Momentary interruption of any of the above conditions shall cause the car lights to turn on. Note: The car lighting branch circuit is being controlled and disconnected by a building system separate from the elevator control. This system is removing power based on time, and not the conditions required by A17.1 2.14.7.2.2. Additionally, when the branch circuit power is removed, the auxiliary lights in the car are being activated. The auxiliary light system is designed to operate on battery power for four hours in the event of lighting branch circuit failure. Having this power removed discharges the battery. When the battery is discharged, the elevator control will take the elevator out of service until the battery is re-charged. 4/11/2023
