When sprinklers are installed in elevator pits, automatic fire detection shall be installed to initiate elevator recall in accordance with 2.27.3.2.1 of A17.1 2016. Note: A water-flow switch shall be permitted to initiate elevator recall upon activation of a sprinkler installed on a separately valved sprinkler line dedicated solely for protecting the elevator pit, and the water-flow switch is provided without time-delay capability.

2.11 - Disconnecting Means and Control

Where an additional power source is connected to the load side of the disconnecting means, the disconnecting means required in section 620-51 shall be provided with an auxiliary contact that is positively opened mechanically and the opening shall not be solely dependent on springs. This contact shall cause the additional power source to disconnected from its load when the disconnecting means is in the open position. Note: The main power shunt trip device shall be equipped with the required auxiliary contact as required and connected to the elevator control.
