Where other existing machines and equipment essential to the operation and purpose of the building are located in the machine room or space, the elevator related equipment and machines shall be separated by a substantial grill constructed of non-combustible material not less than 6 feet high and the grill shall be of a design that will reject a ball 2 inches in diameter. No new equipment shall be added to the machine room or space that is not used in connection with the operation of the elevator. Note: Non-elevator related equipment has been installed in the elevator machine room - it is unknown when the equipment was installed. There isn't room for a grill, so a variance may need to be applied for.
